ForgetIT Deliverable D9.4: Personal Preservation Pilot II: Concise preserving mobile information assistant
This deliverable documents the Personal Preservation Pilot II which is an outcome of ForgetIT’s application scenario in work package WP9. Pilot II is a continuation and extension of Pilot I with stronger focus on preservation. The main achievements documented in this deliverable are as follows: First, the deliverable presents the extensions applied to Pilot I for the WP9 final evaluation with the use case of the PIMO Photo Organization app. In particular, this includes further integration of components from technical work packages, most notably the ForgetIT image services. Second, the implementation of the Preservation Value assessment in the Pilot II allows to embed a Preservation Strategy into the Semantic Desktop. This Preservation Strategy is based on indicators from the Semantic Desktop and the Personal Information Model (PIMO) and is defined by users using policies and rules listed along the dimensions for assessment identified by ForgetIT. This is embedded in a user interface to define the Preservation Service Contract with a service provider including Preservation Levels for various Preservation Values. Third, having Preservation Value assessment and individual Preservation Strategy now in place, Pilot II realises the full Preserve-or-Forget (PoF) Framework’s Preservation Preparation Workflow allowing the PoF Middleware to decide on preservation on its own terms, thus enabling Synergetic Preservation for the Active System Semantic Desktop. Fourth, Pilot II uses the Memory Buoyancy assessment in the Semantic Desktop to realise a further beneficial functionality: currently important – i.e., high buoyant – PIMO resources and concepts are synced based on their Memory Buoyancy to desktops and mobile devices for, e.g., offline access. This functionality, together with a PIMO user interface, is also suitable for mobile browsers (PIMO5) and a proof-of-concept for native clients shows that the ForgetIT-enhanced functionality of the Semantic Desktop is also realisable on mobile devices. Thus, Pilot II extends Pilot I from a “concise preserving desktop information assistant” to a “concise preserving mobile information assistant”. Finally, a reassessment of the uses cases with the achievements of Pilot II and a reassessment of the success indicators of WP9 close the deliverable.
